Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then found multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior political figure commented the attack rendered him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of migrant background in 2020.
