Jennifer Lawrence States Discussing Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart

Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels suitable to comment publicly against the Trump government, concerned it could exacerbate divisive discussions and deepen rifts within the country.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Says Jennifer Lawrence

During a discussion, Lawrence commented, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I felt like I was acting frantically without clear direction. But experience has shown, over multiple voting cycles, celebrities do not make a difference at all on electoral choices.”

Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire tearing the country apart.”

Political Evolution

Lawrence has previously been open about voting for both Republican and Democratic presidential nominees over the years. Growing up with a right-leaning family in her home state, she supported John McCain in the 2008 election then moving to the Democratic party and stating she realized during the Obama era that backing conservatives was undermining her own rights as a female citizen.

Previous Comments

Earlier in her career, she commented that Trump winning the presidency would be “a catastrophic event” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she gave her endorsement to the Democratic nominee, “since I believe she’s a strong contender and I am confident that she will make every effort to defend reproductive rights.”

Hollywood’s Stance

Lawrence was aligned with many in the entertainment industry in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage celebrities have over the public choices was underscored by Trump’s victory.

“This upcoming term appears changed,” noted she regarding Trump’s presidency. “Since he made his plans clear. We understood his record for his first term. He was explicit. And voters made that decision.”

Latest Film

Lawrence is discussing Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she portrays a young mom who deals with her emotional state in a remote area. During a media event for the movie in Venice, she addressed the situation in the Middle East: “I feel fear. It’s horrifying. What’s happening is equivalent to a atrocity and it’s terrible.”

Broader Concerns

The actress elaborated by stating that she was saddened by “the disrespect in the discussions of the political landscape right now and how that is going to be normalised to the children now. It’s going to be normal to them that leaders are untruthful.”

The actor attempted to refocus outrage about the conflict to leaders rather than celebrities. “Stay focused on the people in charge,” she remarked, which was interpreted as a reference to the declaration signed by thousands of arts community members to boycott Israeli film institutions.

Individual Insights

The actor, who received an Academy Award early in her career for her part in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her portrayal in the new film. Although Lynne Ramsay has rejected the plot being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, the actress said that she connected with parts of her role’s experience after the birth of her new baby, shortly after filming concluded.

“There was concern for my son,” she said, “envisioning every potential danger, and then second-guessing everything that I was doing. I was receiving counseling, but I started taking a medication called that medicine and I continued it for 14 days and it made a difference.”

Career Moments

Jennifer Lawrence also discussed regarding the liberating necessity of completing nude scenes in the project while she was expecting and unable to exercise.

“It feels nice,” she commented, regarding the need to abandon insecurities. “I mean, I do have moments where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between me and a prostitute? But it isn’t a major concern.”
