A person who laced sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to children at a summer camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two children aged nine and ten years old.

The accused was arrested after eight children and a grown-up experienced illness at the location in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Yet, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

The accused was held in detention before a further hearing on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She explained his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he managed.

Ruben played a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She said Ruben had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had worries in recently.

The legal representative continued: "This year his family member had worries about the situation, justifiably.

"They chose" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor stated items including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were found, and his stepson notified the police about his suspicions.

She explained Ruben proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that evening - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Authorities" had not responded by that point," she continued.

The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining the police response of the events.

The prosecutor stated the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson notified the police a second time.

She said the man then played the "sweet game" in a area of five youngsters.
