Trump's Business Attempted to Hire Almost 200 Employees on Work Permits in 2025

Donald Trump’s corporate entity increased its recruitment of foreign workers on short-term work permits this year, even as his government was placing obstacles for other businesses attempting to do the same, a report released Thursday stated.

Based on data from the federal labor department, the business aimed to hire at least 184 foreign workers in the coming year for temporary positions at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago resort, two golf clubs and his winery in Virginia.

The number of requests for temporary work visas covering staff including waitstaff, clerks, cleaning staff, culinary employees and farm workers was the record submitted by the organization, and up from 121 in 2021, when Trump’s first term concluded.

It was also the fifth time in 10 years that Trump had sought to hire over a hundred foreign employees for temporary positions at Mar-a-Lago, based on labor statistics.

The disclosure comes amid a crackdown on immigration laws by his government that has included the introduction of a substantial charge on H1-B visas; extra scrutiny of the actions of the 55 million people who already hold US visas; and restrictive new rules for foreign students and reporters.

Overall, the Trump Organization aimed to employ over 560 overseas workers over the period the former president has been in the White House, from his first term and during 2025.

Significantly, the former president was questioned by some in the GOP this week for comments defending the need for foreign workers when a company was unable to find people with “specific talents” to fill certain positions.

“You can’t just say a country is entering, going to spend billions to build a facility, and going to take people off an jobless roster who haven’t worked in five years, and they’re going to start producing their missiles. It doesn’t work that effectively,” he told a host after it was implied that overseas employees undercut the wages of American employees.

The White House refused a request for comment, and the business did not provide an answer to an inquiry.
